Expert Witness Support: Trusted, Experienced and Independent

At Quadriga, we provide expert witness support for both civil and criminal cases related to health and safety and fire safety. We have extensive experience acting for both prosecution and defence in criminal cases and supporting clients in civil cases. This means that we are a trusted, independent voice in legal proceedings—committed to providing objective, evidence-based expertise to the court.

Criminal Cases: Objective Expertise for Justice

In criminal cases, expert witnesses are appointed either by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) or by the defence. Regardless of who instructs us, our primary legal duty is to the court. We provide an independent, fact-based opinion, never advocating for one side but instead delivering an unbiased expert assessment as required by the courts. Our experience includes high-profile cases such as the Greenfeeds road tanker confined space incident, in which two individuals tragically lost their lives. In that case, we were appointed by the CPS to provide expert analysis that contributed to the legal proceedings. The outcome included two personal gross negligence manslaughter convictions, as well as two corporate manslaughter convictions. A 13 year jail sentence of a senior manager was handed down and the company was fined £2 million.
We have also worked for the defendants in cases where individuals or organisations have been prosecuted under health and safety laws, in some cases where they were not at fault. Our role in these cases is to assess the evidence, provide clear and impartial expert opinions, and support the court in making informed decisions.

Civil Cases: Clarity in Complex Legal Disputes

Civil cases involve one party suing another, often with substantial financial implications. In these cases, expert witnesses are typically appointed by one side to provide reports and testimony that clarify technical aspects of the dispute.

For example, we were engaged in a case involving a major bakery operator. One of their factories was destroyed by fire, resulting in a loss exceeding £100 million. The insurer disputed the claim, citing an alleged breach of policy warranty related to hot work procedures. Our role was to assess compliance with policy conditions—not just legal requirements—and to provide an expert report that ultimately led to the insurers settling the claim.
